Obama's legacy

I've heard a lot of talk lately about OBama's legacy lately.
After hearing tonight's farewell speech, where he harped on about Democracy, (bit hypocritical after he lectured and threatened the Brits over the Brexit vote) then he starts his divisive rhetoric about Brown people v White privilege. Made me think what an absolute joy it is that this mans time is up.
Looking at what he did in 8 years, Domestically,
He took office with a majority in house and Senate and proceeded to Govern with no Reaching across the aisle, setting a partisan tone for the rest of his presidency.....
He inherited a collapsing economy at which the Federal Reserve played a major roll in stabilizing with its Monetary policy of ZIRP and Quantitative Easing. Even with the intervention of the Federal Reserve Obama managed to more than double the national debt, which currently sits at close to 20 Trillion Dollars.OBama himself proclaimed at the time he took office that a national debt of 9 Trillion was Immoral, yet went on to spend more than every PResident before him combined... Even to this day the USA budget deficit is close to 750 billion a year........
(Now some people will blame Bush for the housing market collapse but the truth is many economists warned and subsequently lay the blame at Alan Greenspan and Larry Summers who gave birth to the housing crisis with their Laissez faire economics. Deregulating Wall Street was the root of the problem. All this occurred under Clintons presidency).
Then there's Obamacare, a bill that is unaffordable with ridiculously high deductibles and health care companies are dumping it all over the country cos it's too expensive. It's about to collapse, even Bill Clinton called it ridiculous... Gottabeoneof the worst and most costliest mistakes ever to be passed thru Congress. Inner cities in America are a disaster.
His Foreign policy is a total disaster, I think we can all agree on that.
Some positives:
He got Bin Laden, Is an inspiring speaker. Economy has improved especially the last 2 years, Stock mkt is up, home values are up and finally we are starting to see wages rise.
Anyway, Not the worst but far from the best, Still I'm so ready for change.

You seriously overrate your importance if you think I replied in Blind Fury.
Mild amusement is closer to the mark.
Your 'possibly ever' remark was ludicrous. As such I treated it with the humour and scorn it deserved.
Before I reach Blind fury, I suspect I would pass through seriousness, followed by 'looking something up'. If I found myself approaching 'myopic anger' I suspect I would put the kettle on and make a nice soothing cup of tea.
Actually the example of Chicago was apposite, I could have used New York, where America found itself dealing with southern problems in the North, East and West.
Anyway, calm down and have a cup of tea. I dont want you hurting yourself

There's rarely just one way to read something.
I stand by the comment about the 60s and said why.
The possibly ever part is probably a stretch, but I meant that whereas in the past, the country was divided along the lines of north and south, now the divisions are found throughout the country. But fuck it, despite reading what I said about the north and south Your blind fury just reiterated what I'd suggested. The only example you gave in your blind fury that disagreed with me was Rodney King.

You ignored the words 'since the '60s', and 'possibly'. If you disagree with someone, it's worth reading what they said first and disagreeing with that rather than what you wish they'd said.
It could be that I'm wrong, perhaps the country is more united than it was in the immediate decades before. It doesn't seem to be what you've believed a couple of months ago when you were describing the attitudes of young black men you work with.
Suggesting the US is a mo divided society now than when he took over, which was the general gist of the post isn't particularly controversial. Look at wage gaps, BLM, polarisation of views on any range of subjects, and you'll find plenty of evidence for it.
Still, I'll take any award that's going, so thanks for that.

One the original topic.
I think he was a charismatic leader that could probably have done more than he did, in real terms. But the workings of American government are not simple, which is why I am not sure we can expect from/be scared of (depending on your politics) Trump, in comparison to what he has promised.

Thirteen of Britain's colonies came together and called themselves a country. There was no "American" union that ever included the Canada colonies. The Patriots/Revolutions (depending on who you are) tried to include the northern colonies in the revolution with some very limited success. Certain groups, of Quebecois especially, aided the the Revolutionary army significantly but the establishment was generally against it and was soon bolstered by British troops.
United Empire Loyalists flocked to the Canadian colonies after the War of Independence (again a loaded name.) Including a number of freed slaves that had helped in the war on the side of the British.They were aided by the Act Against Slavery, the first such act put into law in British holdings (passed in the House of Upper Canada)

Had a good swagger about him. Not sure what he did for the average American, but on the world stage (and this job comes with that added responsibility) I don't think he offered much.

I find him likeable on a personal level... but Guantanamo is still open, the NSA is spying on citizens more than ever before, and US drone attacks are killing people all over the shop to name just three examples. I think his media friendly demeanour helps him deflect a lot of criticism.
Still, the next one is clearly mentally ill so let's see how that works out.

Saved millions of jobs in and related to US Auto industry...
Pity Clinton didn't use these in her campaign...over and over again in her campaign...focused too much on Trump personality and unfit for president...
Facts of Obama's successes could have won more votes...
